About

Dr. Jack CoxPastor L. Jack Cox was born in Johnson City, TN on August 16, 1943.  He grew up in a modest home with a godly mother.  After high school, Cox realized that, even though he was a church member, he was not saved.  On March 31, 1963, Jack Cox received Christ as his Saviour.  Shortly thereafter, the Holy Spirit convicted Cox’s heart about full-time service.  Even though he was a shy kid, God had great plans for Jack Cox.  He put aside his business dreams and his barbershop and went off to Bible college in Nashville, TN.

It was in Bible college that God united Cox and Renee Letchworth.  They were married after Cox graduated from college.  He briefly worked at Heritage Baptist Church as an assistant pastor before becoming pastor of the Canah Chapel Baptist Church in Erwin, TN.  God blessed that small mountain church with great days and new people.

After five years, Mrs. Cox’s home church called Pastor Cox to be their pastor.  Mt. Calvary FWB Church experienced many blessings during Cox’s ten year term as their pastor.

In January of 1983, God placed Pastor Cox, his wife, and their infant son here at Liberty Baptist Church.  God has richly blessed this ministry during these past 26 years.  Cox has seen over a 200% increase in church attendance.  Scores of people have been saved and baptized.  Liberty Christian School has grown to its largest enrollment in history.  God has opened doors for LBC to head up New Testament Church Missions, a mission board that supports over 150 national Indian pastors.  Pastor Cox and Ron Christ take an annual missions trip to India to train those pastors and share the gospel.  In 1996, Cox orchestrated the move from downtown Durham to our current Guess Road campus.  In 2003, LBC moved into its new, 800-seat auditorium.

In January, 2008, Hyles-Anderson College awarded Pastor Jack Cox with an honorary Doctorate of Divinity degree.
